Wedding Invitation Card Design 101: 4 Tips to Get Started

Updated: Mar 2

We all know that the wedding invitations are an important piece leading up to your big day, but designing your wedding invitation cards doesn’t need to be stressful. If you are a bride or groom and you're reading this blog post, let's just say it's going to be a good day because I’m here to make your life easier. Today I'm going to share with you a wedding planning hack that is going to make the design of your wedding consistent through out your invites and website and save you from the torture of collecting RSVPs and details from guests. All with a beautiful aesthetic.

Let me start by sharing what I did for my wedding invitations... My colors were a soft sage green, dusty rose pink and a cream to accent (yes you may notice I still really love these colors). I decided that the only way to be creative and have something beautiful was to create my own wedding invites... by hand. Now if you know me, this isn't completely out of character because I love crafting and creating by hand. But let's be real here; this was a bad idea. I started by searching scrapbook papers that would match my wedding website and my overall theme of my décor. (I'm already feeling overwhelmed just typing that sentence). Then I had to create a design that was beautiful, yet functional. Guests would have to see everything clearly and mail back and RSVP. Wow, if only I had known how simple it could have been!

There is an amazing company called Basic Invite. They help you create a beautiful wedding invitation card design that creates functional and elegant invitations. There are a couple characteristics that really set Basic Invite apart from other wedding invitation design companies, so let's start here.

Here are my 4 tips to help you get started with your wedding invitation card design using Basic Invite:

1. Get set up with your free wedding website

First, Basic Invite is going to provide you with a free wedding website. They are completely customizable! They are mobile friends and incredibly easy to use. Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows customers almost unlimited color options with instant previews online. You can change the color of each element on a card, with over 180 different color options. The card can be exactly how you want it, down to the smallest detail. This is what sets Basic Invite apart from any other online stationery company and their our biggest draw.

2. Order a printed invitation sample before buying

Once your website is PERFECT, Basic Invite allows customers the ability to order a printed sample of their invitation so they can see the card’s paper quality and how it will print before they have to place their final order. So at this point, your website and your invites match perfectly AND Customers can choose from over 40 different envelope colors so that they can make their invitation stand out even before it is opened.

3. Order all the matching stationery you need with no extra hassle

Each of Basic invites' wedding invitation card designs are part of a set. They have all the wedding stationery you need, like save the dates, wedding invitations, enclosure cards, wedding menus, wedding programs, and even matching thank you cards!

One of my favorite features is their free address collection service to request your addresses with just three simple steps. Share a link via social media or email, collect addresses, and get free envelope printing.

4. Sign, Seal, Deliver

They even have something called Seal and send invites. Seal and send wedding invitations are an all-in-one wedding invitation with a tear-off RSVP postcard included! The Seal & Send their our newest collection and brides and LOVING them. Currently, we offer them in over 30 designs including our ever-popular foil options, and, like their other products, they are customizable. What's special about our Seal & Sends is that guest's addresses are printed on the front of each invitation so no envelope is necessary! All you have to do is share a link, collect guest addresses, and upload them onto your design. Once you receive your order all you have to do is add postage, fold your invites, and secure them with a sticker! Simple and easy.

Guys, I can't even tell you how much time, energy and stress this would have saved me! Don't be like me and do it the hardest way possible. You already have a lot on your plate and this can really make everything work together smoothly and beautifully with these elegant invitations without all the hassle. You deserve to have the best day possible -- don’t make it harder than it needs to be. Cheers to you!
